Doyenne of DEI
Chris Baker is a dynamic voice in the evolving landscape of brands and social impact. With over 20 years of experience at some of the world’s leading advertising agencies, Chris has transformed his understanding of brands and their role in shaping society. As a result, he has become a driving force in social entrepreneurship, founding businesses that challenge the status quo and create tangible, positive change.
Chris is the Founder & CEO of Serious Tissues, a toilet paper brand combating deforestation and climate change by planting a tree for every sale—over 1.2 million trees planted in just three years. He is also the Co-Founder of Change Please, a coffee company that has helped hundreds of homeless individuals find stability by training them as baristas. Change Please was named the World’s Leading Social Enterprise in 2018 and is now a global success, available in 23 countries with revenue nearing £40 million.
Since the release of his book, Obsolete: How Change Brands Can Change the World (Bloomsbury, October 2024), Chris has been in high demand as a speaker. He has headlined events for BBC Studios, Kantar, Immediate Media, and Enterprise Nation’s Start-Up Show, as well as the Future of Food Event. Chris has also appeared on prominent podcasts including Uncensored CMO, Kantar, and WARC, with more exciting appearances scheduled in the coming months.
In his career as an advertising strategist, Chris has worked with global powerhouses such as Unilever, Danone, Mondelez, and Sky, earning over 100 creative and strategic awards. He has also consulted on sustainability initiatives like Unilever’s ‘Leap’ project, which focuses on driving meaningful change within large corporations.
Chris is an expert in leveraging behavioural economics and psychology to address some of society’s most pressing challenges, from climate change to homelessness. He brings his deep experience and fresh perspective to his speaking engagements, inspiring audiences to see the role of business as a force for good.
Chris has shared his insights with audiences at leading companies such as Tony’s Chocolonely, Pepsico, Unilever, and Havas, as well as recent events with BBC Studios, Kantar, and Immediate Media.
“Chris brings unparalleled insight into the intersection of commerce and social change. His ability to connect with audiences is truly exceptional.”
— Tony’s Chocolonely
Chris’s book, Obsolete, solidifies his position as a thought leader in the space of social enterprise and the future of branding, offering actionable insights for businesses seeking to lead with purpose.
